SVF 2.0 under AJE progress report: 11/20/2012

Posted: November 20, 2012 in AACW Mod

Nothing spectacular as I’m yet working on gfx. It’s  huge work I proceed incremently, one hour a day. But using Photoshop is fun.
With the AJE engine, ideas are popping up. One feature impossible to simulate in AACW properly was blockhouse built by Union to protect rear installations and railorad from sabotage. They will come in SVF 2.0, Union player will build them by regional decisions. The blockhouse structure will be used to either reduce the possibility of partisan unit appearing in the region, if possible reduce the possibility to break railways, or fasten the reconstruction, and keep loyalty to a minimum level.

    Awesome! 😀

While this is certainly a major endavour for you to undertake, aren’t you afraid that the next “announced” AGEOD game would be “AACW 2” with the new AJE “technologies” [I would bet myself on a NCP 2, though] ?

  3. Clovis says:

Why I should be afraid? 🙂 Because Great britain will enter war only after 1863, with a 5% chance, after some reading on Wikipedia and a fun debate on the offcial debate on the forum based on anything but history?

Sorry to be a bit ironical, but As much I don’t doubt AGEOD could release a good AACW 2, I know they are quite able to release a worthless one. Mine will have many faults, weaknesses, omissions and shortcomings, but I’ve ceased to be sure AGEOD is done of the best. A part is. Another not. And Pon 1.03c specter is yet floating in the thin air to remember us some lessons.

Narwhal, I’m not competing against AGEOD. I’m doing a game I want to play. I release it in the open filed to get reports to fix it in order to get a yet better one. It has been the FY way, it will be for SVF too. Of course, from time to time, I’m a bit forced to explain why FY isn’t containing the new features added by another guy on another forum. I explain because I believe you’re enticed to explain your design decisions when you offer something. Maybe as silly than considering stupid a demigod changing Finland entry in war from a few low quality posts in a forum and a quick glance under pressure to Wikipedia, but my waY.

How say the coordinator.?If you’re not part of the solution, you’re the problem. Nice definition of totalitarism. SVF 2.0 will offer another look , even if vastly inferior, to the AACW under AGE engine. Choice. That means freedom. I’m free 🙂 When you’re free, you’re not afraid.

  4. Narwhal says:

“Afraid” was inappropriate – what I meant was that you could use the ressources (UI, graphism, …) from AACW without starting from scratch, but then starting from scratch as a charm of its own.

There are been some changes between AACw and AJE for UI and graphism. I prefer to avoid any ptential problem by using all conventions and templates in AJE. Then I’m learning to use Photoshop and it’s fun fun fun :-). I’ve discovered the texture tool :-).

Even if AGEOD announces an AACW2 soon, it will be months, perhaps a year, before release. That gives your AJE-based SVF 2.0 mod a window of opportunity. After release of the (hypothetical) AACW2, an AJE/SVF would still be just as valid as the original BOA after BOA2’s release. It’s possible that an AACW2 would have weekly game turns, larger map, etc., thus take longer to play. Players might prefer an ACW game of shorter duration, so again an “obsolete” AJE/SVF would still find use. Of course, with AGEOD, any “new-and-improved” version 2 is not guaranteed to be in fact improved. Your AJE/SVF might still be better, even if older. If nothing else, a AJE/SVF would be an excellent training ground for any eventual AACW2/SVF mod.

So, yeah, great idea. Why not? With effort, why shouldn’t it work, be worthwhile, and be played? Go for it!

(FWIW, I too would most like to see a NCP2 next from AGEOD.)

    • Clovis says:

NCP could be adapted to AJE too. IMHO, there are sufficient tools in AJE to build a sort of diplomatic model based on regional decisions and events tracking relation levels between Major Powers.
